Elda L. Schmidt, 92

Elda L. Schmidt, 92, of Alhambra died Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on July 2 at Salem United Church of Christ in Alhambra. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on July 2 at Salem United Church of Christ in Alhambra, with the Rev. Jerry Amiri, pastor, and John Mindrup, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery in Alhambra. Arrangements are being handled by Dauderman Mortuary in Alhambra. She was born on Dec. 10, 1921, on the family farm east of Alhambra to John and Katherine (Henschen) Braundmeyer. On March 3, 1946, she married Herbert H. Schmidt. He survives in Alhambra.

Mrs. Schmidt was raised on the family farm, where she lived her entire life. She raised her family and cared for her parents until their death. She worked part-time at the Hitz Memorial Home in the laundry department for 15 years. She enjoyed crocheting, piecing and quilting.

She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Alhambra and the church Women’s Guild. She was also a member of the Leef Township Senior Citizens.

Other survivors include sons, James H. (Lynn) Schmidt of Highland, Ronald H. (Rhonda) Schmidt of Alhambra and Lee A. Schmidt of Chicago; grandchildren, Kimberly L. Schmidt of Highland, Kristin R. Schmidt of Highland, Christopher R. Schmidt of Alhambra, Jeremy S. Schmidt of Chicago and Garrett R. Schmidt of New York, N.Y.; and a sister, Thea Brunnworth of Worden. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, John E. Braundmeyer; sisters, Luella Boedricker and Esther Foulke.

Memorials may be made to Salem Cemetery or Salem United Church of Christ.
