Brothers accused of numerous graveside thefts in three counties

News-DemocratJuly 2, 2014

Two brothers face charges of stealing numerous religious statues from gravesites in three counties.

Nathan Cato, 18, and Nicholas Cato, 21, both of the 100 block of Truman St. in Meadowbrook, have been charged in the thefts.

The two routinely traveled Madison, Macoupin and Montgomery counties to steal the statues, according to police. Bethalto police have been investigating the thefts since April.

While family members have identified 11 of the stolen items, another 14 statues remain unidentified. If your family is missing a similar statue, contact the Bethalto Police Department by calling 618-377-5266.
