ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday signed four players from the Dominican Republic.
The players are: right-handed pitchers Junior Fernandez and Sebastian Nunez, shortstop Starlin Balbuena and second baseman Esequiel Delgado.
Fernandez, a 6-foot-1, 180-pounder, turned 17 in March. He will be eligible to play immediately, starting for the Cardinals' Dominican Summer League team Saturday.
Balbuena and Delgado are each 16; Nunez turned 17 in mid-May. They have inked contracts for 2015, but the deals are subject to approval by the commissioner's office.
