Caseyville police arrest man after pursuit

Caseyville police arrested a man after a pursuit on Thursday night.

Richard Malone, Jr., 35 of the 800 block of North 75th Street in East St. Louis, was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer with a motor vehicle and fleeing and attempting to elude an officer.

Malone was stopped at the intersection of Illinois 157 and California Drive in Caseyville about 11:41 p.m. on Thursday night, according to Caseyville Police Chief Gerard Spratt.

“During the course of the traffic stop, the suspect admitted to having cannabis inside the vehicle,” Spratt stated in a written release. “The suspect also had a suspended Illinois driver’s license.”

Before the officer could take Malone into custody, Spratt said Malone fled the scene, nearly striking the officer. Caseyville police pursued Malone’s car along with Illinois State Police, Malone stopped on the 25th Street ramp off Interstate 64. He was then taken into custody.

None of the officers was injured. Malone was not injured.

Malone was charged on Saturday by the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office. His bail was set at $30,000.
