NATIONAL PRO FASTPITCH SOFTBALL CAMP -- GCS Ballpark in Sauget will host a Chicago Bandits Fastpitch Softball Camp July 14-15. The time on July 14 is 1 to 4 p.m.; the time on July 15 is 9 a.m. to noon. Fee: $75 per camper, which includes the two-day admission, a T-shirt, and tickets to the Frontier League All-Star Game and the Battle of the Sexes Showcase ticket. The All-Star Game (July 16) and the Battle of the Sexes Showcase (July 15), a home-run derby between men and women, both will be at GCS Ballpark. Campers will receive professional instruction from, participate in specialized drills, take batting practice and enjoy a meet and greet with Chicago Bandits players. TIM NELSON BENEFIT -- A "NellyStrong" Benefit for former Marquette High and Dupo High football coach Tim Nelson will be held at noon July 26 at Goettens Oasis in Carrollton. Nelson was diagnosed with colorectal cancer and has undergone radiation, chemotherapy and surgery. The benefit was organized by his friends to help offset expenses for treatment. ORCHARDS GOLF PROGRAMS/LESSONS -- The Orchards in Belleville is offering its Junior Golf Program. An instructional clinic for children 5-older covers irons, woods, putting and chipping with sessions Sept. 6-Oct. 5. Fee: $95 per child or $235 for camp and a set of U.S. Kids junior clubs. A Playing Camp and Mini-Playing Camp is July 21-25 for players ages 5-8 and 9-older. Fee: $75 for ages 5-8, $125 for 9-older. Summer Junior Golf League plays nine holes once a week for eight weeks on Mondays through July 28. Fee: $150; purchase a summer junior membership for $250 and play Monday through Friday (no holidays) through Aug. 31. High School Preseason Camp July 28-31 designed to get high school golfers ready for the fall high school season. Space limited. Fee: $125. Private golf lessons and summer passes are available. McKENDREE HARVEST CHALLENGE -- The McKendree University Harvest Challenge 5K (3.1 miles) run-walk and half marathon (13.1 miles) are set for 8 a.m. Sept. 6. The course begins and ends at McKendree University in Lebanon. Fees: $15 for 5K and $33 or half marathon ($20 and $40 on race day). There also is a children's fun run added this season called the Kids K, which begins at 8:50 a.m. and is a 1K race (1,000 meters or .62 mile).
