Downtown section of Interstate 44 closing for weekend

Any plans you have in downtown St. Louis this weekend may require a detour.

The Missouri Department of Transportation will close Interstate 44, formerly known as the "depressed section" of Interstate 70, for the CityArchRiver Park Over the Highway project.

Starting at 8 p.m. Friday and working through 5 a.m. Monday, crews will close Interstate 44 in both directions to place girders over the interstate for the park project.

The Eads bridge will also be closed for the weekend to "ensure tht interstate traffic moves smoothly", according to a news release from MODOT.

For the weekend, Eastbound 44 will go up and over the northbound Memorial to Third Street. Interstate traffic will retrun to eastbound Interstate 44 afte rthe Martin Luther King Bridge.

Westbound Interstate 44 traffic will detour down Broadway; motorists taking southbound Interstate 55 will take Spruce and those going on to eastbound Interstate 64 will take Gratiot to the Sixth Street ramp.
