Illinois State Police are still looking for the 36-year-old Granite City man who was drinking and driving when his passenger was ejected from the car in April and died.

William J. Wellmon was charged by the St. Clair County State's Attorney's office with one count of reckless homicide and one count of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol casing death.

Wellmon was northbound on Illinois 4 at Mud Creek Road in rural Marissa when he got into an accident. His passenger, identified as Daniel Pochmich, "was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene," Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Mark Doiron said.

Wellmon was taken to the hospital for medical treatment. State Police investigators spoke with him briefly while he was at the hospital, but then he left and police have been unable to locate him.

Wellmon had not been charged at that time. A St. Clair County judge later set bail for Wellmon at $250,0000.

He is known to frequent Marissa and Swansea. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call Illinois State Police Agent Devin Watts at 346-3760.
