Grizzlies eager to put on a show at Frontier League All-Star game

— After months of making plans and hard work by the entire Gateway Grizzlies' staff, GCS Ballpark is ready to host the best of the Frontier League.

The 2014 Frontier League All-Star game will be played in Sauget on Wednesday, beginning at 7:05 p.m., when the West Division all-stars takes on the top players from the East Division.

Gateway General Manager Steve Gomric said this week that tickets, priced at $15 per person, are still available and may be purchased at GCS Ballpark or at gatewaygrizzlies.com.

"It's a lot of work coordinating things, when you've got players and people from 14 teams all coming in one week, but we're excited about it. It should be a lot of fun and we hope everybody, the fans, players and everyone coming in for ths event has a great time,'' Gomric said. "I'm especially looking forward to the fireworks after the game. It's going to be huge and after all this work it will be a good way to blow off some steam.''

The activities begin Monday when the Chicago Bandits a nationally known women's softball team, will conduct a girls softball camp at GCS Ballpark beginning at 1 p.m.

The camp continues Tuesday morning. The cost is $75 per person and includes a ticket to the home run derby and All-Star game.

"We're getting a great response from the softball people. They're really excited about the Bandits coming in,'' Gomric said.

The all-star luncheon is set for 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Casino Queen. The event includes the introduction of the all-stars from both divisions and the inaugural inductions into the Frontier League Hall of Fame.

The list of inductees includes Morgan Burkhart, Brett Gray, Fran Riordan, Aaron Ledbetter, Kirk Taylor, Scott Pinoni and Frontier League founder Chris Hanners.

The gates at GCS Ballpark open at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday and from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m., fans will have the opportunity to meet the all-stars and their autographs.

A youth home run derby championship will begin at 5:45 p.m., with the Frontier League home run derby set for 7:05 p.m.

Following the home run derby, the Chicago Bandits will take on a group of Frontier League all-stars in a Battle of the Sexes game.

The 2014 Frontier League All-Star game, presented by the Casino Queen, is set for 7:05 p.m. Wednesday. Gates open at 5:45 p.m.
