OTHS netters snare six All-Area spots on roster

Progress Sports WriterJuly 10, 2014

Although in recent years the local high school boys’ tennis scene has been dominated by the likes of Edwardsville and Belleville East, the OTHS Panthers have produced their fair share of quality tennis.

This past week this truth was made more apparent as the O’Fallon High boys’ program collected a total of six roster spots on the Belleville News Democrat’s 2014 All-Area team. Edwardsville and Belleville East loaded up on first team roster awards; however, O’Fallon players were recognized by earning three All-Area second team honors and an honorable mention award.

The Panthers who served and volleyed their way to All-Area second team recognition were singles players Neal Shekar and Riley Muren. Both netters were instrumental in producing a winning season for the OTHS squad and an IHSA sectional tournament title.

Joining the singles representatives on the second team was the doubles tandem of Shree Patel and Nikhil Shekar.

The O’Fallon contingent on the BND select team was completed by another Panther doubles tandem—Matt Lloyd and Jon Garry.

The duo was named as honorable mention performers on the All-Area roster.
