Lola J. Weiss, 77, of Highland died Monday, July 14, 2014, at her home.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on July 17 at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland and from 8 to 11 a.m. on July 18 at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on July 18 at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, with the Rev. Christopher W. Hill, senior pastor of Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, officiating. Burial will be in Highland City Cemetery.
She was born June 21, 1937, in Highland to Clinton E. and Dorothy M. (Keck) Loyet.
Ms. Weiss was reared in Highland and graduated of Highland High School 1955. She lived in Kansas City, Mo., until 1961, then returned to St. Louis before moving back to Highland in 1972.
She worked in St. Louis as a secretary/receptionist for several years. She also worked for Townsend Restaurant in St. Jacob, operated My Tavern in Highland from 1976 to 1984, and she worked for Cypress Restaurant as a cook until 1995, when she retired.
She was an avid reader. She loved the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. She was a strong contributor to Lakota Indians. She was a crafty lady and liked making quilts and other crafts.
She was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland. She had a lifetime supporting membership to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y. She was a member of the Gettysburg Foundation, and she was an honorary member of the National VFW.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon L. Walter of Highland; sons, Timothy J.K. Weiss of Highland and Fred M. (significant other Laurie Ginos) Weiss of Hillsboro, Ill.; grandchildren, Stephanie M. (Steven) Parker of Greenwood, Fla., Josef C. (Janel) Walter of Marysville, Calif., Michaela S. (significant other Elliot Frey) Weiss of Highland, Karina M. (Austin) Trowbridge of Highland, SJon Ian Weiss of Highland, Kayla M. (significant other Dillon Stock) Weiss of Highland, Natalie (significant other Robert Lawrence) Weiss of Highland and Joshua Weiss of Highland; great-grandchildren, Sofia Walter, Iliana Walter, Cody Trowbridge, Autumn Trowbridge, Peyton Weiss, Elijah Lawrence and Braydon Stock; brothers, Charles E. (Gale) Loyet of Wadsworth, Ohio, and James L. (Doris) Loyet of Highland; sisters, Judith (Bob) Gunter of Atlanta, Ga., and Jeanine (Michael) Pacatte of Highland.
She was preceded in death by her father, who died on Dec. 17, 1982; her mother, who died on March 13, 1989; and her former husband, Donald C. Weiss, who died on Nov. 5, 1981.
