Toddler drowns in pool in Sturgeon area

— A toddler has drowned in a private pool in central Missouri.

Boone County Fire Protection District spokeswoman Martina Pounds says the child's mother put her down for a nap Monday and didn't notice she had left her crib. Pounds says the mother later found the toddler in a pool outside their home in the Sturgeon area.

The Columbia Daily Tribune reports ( ) the mother called emergency crews and administered CPR with the instruction of a dispatcher until the first fire crew arrived. The child was pronounced dead at a Columbia hospital.

The child's identity hasn't been released.

The Boone County Sheriff's Department is investigating.
