Zobrist wins his first feature of season at Highland

There were cars in the pits and fans in the stands at Highland Speedway on Saturday to watch the only show in the area.

In the UMP Late Model class, there were 21 cars ready to race. Heat winners were John Beck, Michael Kloos and Bobby Martintoni. The dash went to Matt Weidner.

The 25-lap feature started with Wiedner and Matt Bailey on the front row. At the start, Bailey jumped in front with Wiedner, Kloos, Chad Zobrist and Martintoni in pursuit.

Bailey led until about lap 5, when high-riding Zobrist took over the lead. He was chase by Kloos for much of the remainder of the race.

The biggest move of the night was done by Rick Salter, who started 14th. He used the bottom of the track to move forward.

Zorbist won his first feature at Highland this year. He was followed by Kloos, Salter, Frankie Martin and Wiedner to complete the top five.

In the UMP Modified class, there was a makeup feature to be run in addition to the regular night's program.

Brian Bielong won the makeup feature, followed by Eric Goetter, Tim Hancock, Chad Sellers and Zach Shantz.

For the regular program, there were 23 cars trying to make the feature.

Heat winners were Tyler Diebert, Rusty Griffaw and Brian Bielong. The dash went to Diebert.

The feature started with Diebert and Griffaw on the front row.

With the green flag waving, Diebert moved to the front with Griffaw, Mike Harrison, Tim Hancock and Bielong giving chase.

Harrison moved to the top and took over the front spot on lap 3 and never looked back.

He was chased by Griffaw for the remainder of the race.

Harrison got the win with Griffaw, Bielong, Diebert and Joe Dresch rounding out the top five.

Belle-Clair Speedway

Open wheel cars and stock cars will come together Friday at Belle-Clair Speedway for the U-PIC-A-PART "Battle at Bell-Vegas" tonight.

Gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps are at 6 and racing begins at 7.

Lucas Oil POWRI Midgets, UMP Super Late Models & Speedway Motors/BOSS Chassis Outlaw Micro Sprints also will take the track

Admission is $20 for adults, 12 and under get in free.
