(Darien) Hinsdale Central sophomore Nida Hamilton doubled her pleasure against metro-east opponents Friday at the IHSA girls state tennis tournament in the Chicago suburbs.
Seeded second in singles, Hamilton defeated Edwardsville sophomore Tess Severin 6-1, 6-0 in the second round, then ended the prep career of Granite City's Jennifer Kim with a straight-set win in the third round.
Hamilton, who along with Central teammate Hanna Mar, became the first two players in state tournament history from the same school to earn the top two seeds in singles, defeated Kim 6-2, 6-0.
Both Hamilton and Mar won fourth-round matches later Friday.
Kim's loss to Hamilton ended the state tournament for metro-east players, who struggled Thursday. Kim and Severin were the lone local players who made it to the second day of competition.
Tournament officials canceled the consolation bracket Thursday because of rain.
