Uno visits Today show, makes splash on videos; will meet Martha, eat at Sardi's

Belleville's top dog made an appearance on "The Today Show" Wednesday morning, hours after he made history by becoming the first beagle to win Best in Show at the 132nd Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York.

Uno yawned during his appearance with handler Aaron Wilkerson, who was interviewed by "Today Show" hosts Meredith Vieira and Matt Lauer. But he (Uno, not Lauer) could be heard baying offstage before his segment, which came just before the 8 o'clock hour.

Uno is owned by Kathy Weichert of Belleville, who operates K-Run Kennels in Belleville. Neither Belleville nor Weichert were mentioned during the "Today Show" segment.

Uno's immediate future includes visits to the Martha Stewart show and a luncheon for dog fanciers at famous New York restaurant Sardi's, where the 2-year-old Uno will be served sliced steak on a silver platter. He will also turn his attention to breeding, Wilkerson said.
