The culmination of the 2008 SWC girls' track season was played out this past week with the annual conference meet. Facing stiff competition from state-ranked East St. Louis and both Belleville East and Belleville West, the local tracksters had to settle for a fourth place finish.
O'Fallon had six medal-winning performances to secure their fourth place team result.
Topping the list of OTHS athletes was Elaine Patten, who continued to hold her position as the leading high jumper in the Metro East. Patten cleared the bar at five feet eight inches to take first place in the event- O'Fallon's only blue ribbon winner.
The Panther 4x800 team of Ubbens, Yoch, Hendrix and Rautio collected the one second place medal for Coach Neil James' squad.
Third place finishers for O'Fallon included: Cain (high jump), Conrad (400), Hendrix (1600) and Rautio (Long Jump).
The O'Fallon girls will travel to Marion this Friday to compete in the IHSA sectional with designs on advancing several Panther athletes to the state competition in Charleston next weekend.
