Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel proposed statewide legislation Thursday to require handgun owners to register their weapons and pay a $65 fee for each one, calling it a common sense measure that would protect the rights of responsible gun owners while keeping illegal firearms off the streets.

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and Northern Illinois University (NIU) announced on Jan. 31 that 703 schools made the Illinois Honor Roll for their continued academic progress, including New Douglas Mid-Elementary, Grantfork Upper Elementary and St. Jacob Elementary.
Triad advanced four wrestlers from Saturday's Class 2A Mount Zion Sectional to the Class 2A state meet which begins Friday, at Assembly Hall in Champaign.

On Jan. 28, St. Louis, Mo., a fantastic city, showed just how patriotic it is when the Gateway to the West held the nation’s first “Welcome Home the Hero’s Veterans Parade.” Little did they know how well it would turn out. There were 100-plus parade participant units, crowds of 100,000-plus lined the way, and weather too good to even wish for at the end of January.
