At 9.2 miles long, Belleville’s Main Street is one of the longest in the country. It grew in the mid-1800s along the rail line that took coal from Belleville’s mines to St. Louis, and is still a central artery.

Founded by Wilbert "Whip" Boeving and Cornelius “Corny” Boeving in 1945, Boeving's Barber Shop at 513 E. Main St. has served generations of area men in need of a haircut or a shave. The business is now operated by Wilbert's sons, Jim and Bill. Soundslide: Boeving's Barber Shop
At 4721 W. Main St., you'll find Lynn McNew, a 35-year-old tattoo artist who got his start as a punk rock skateboarder tattooing his friends in Centralia. He now operates Almighty Studio and is renovating the space above the parlor to be his home. Soundslide: Almighty Studio
