As the Belleville Township board on Tuesday took the first step toward dissolving the 130-year-old township, several advocates for the homeless asked the trustees to find a way to increase aid to the homeless in Belleville.
Alvin Harris Jr., who was charged with the stabbing death of his girlfriend Sharreta Day and her 9-year-old son on Monday, told police she stabbed him first, according to a search warrant application filed in St. Clair County Court.

Hawaii County Police Capt. Robert Wagner said no motive has been established in the murder of a homeless woman in Hilo allegedly committed by Curtis Q. Hodges, 35, of Shiloh. Wagner said the woman was stabbed multiple times in her neck.
James Klauzer of Springfield on Saturday caught an 81.4-pound flathead catfish in Sangchris Lake near Springfield, a fish so big it set the state record for its kind. Klauzer’s fish took the record away from the 78-pound flathead Jody Harris of Carlyle caught out of Carlyle Lake in 1995.
