A mother’s message inspires Central Cougars senior

Breese Central High School Cougars senior high school basketball and baseball player Jack Strieker uses a note from his mother, Alicia Strieker, for motivation after dealing with her long illness and recent death from cancer. Strieker and the Cougars, based in southern Illinois near St. Louis, MO, begin the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) basketball playoffs next week as the top seed at the Class 3A Civic Memorial Regional.

Catching wild cats may be kind, but ultimately how humane is it?

Volunteers in St. Clair County, IL, near St. Louis, MO, are trapping wild cats so they can be spayed or neutered. They then release and feed them, a practice the county is considering making legal. Controlling the feral cats is a way to combat disease and save wild species, acts that may be more humane than supporting wild kitties.
