Remains of fallen soldier being escorted today through Clinton County

A procession accompanying the body of Staff Sgt. Joshua Melton will course through Clinton County today.

Melton, of Germantown, was killed June 19 by a roadside bomb while serving in Afghanistan. His body is scheduled for arrival today at Mid-America Airport.

The procession will travel through New Baden, Albers, Germantown, Bartelso, Beckemeyer, Carlyle and Breese.

Police from across the county will escort Melton's remains. County and municipal leaders have been encouraging citizens to show their support during the procession.

The escort is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Updated information is available on the Moss Funeral Home Web site, www.mossfuneralhome.com.

Following is the planned route:

Start at Illinois 161 and Interstate 64 in New Baden, head east to Albers.

Continue on Illinois 161 east to Germantown, head east on Sycamore to Munster (Jansen Chevrolet), then south to Illinois 161.

Go east on Illinois 161 to Bartelso, turn north on Bartelso-Beckemeyer Road.

At Beckemeyer, go east on Old U.S. Route 50 to Clinton County Courthouse in Carlyle, then north one block to Fairfax Street, then west to Illinois 127.

Take Illinois 127 north to New U.S. Route 50, head west to Breese exit.

Go south on Walnut Street to old U.S. Route 50, then west to Germantown Road.

Escort ends at Breese Fire Department.
