closeTraffic was being diverted around a head-on collision on South Belt West around 12:30 p.m. Thursday as emergency crews worked to clean up the wreckage and attend to the vehicles' occupants.
No serious injuries were immediately reported. The vehicles' occupants declined medical attention.
The accident was near Illinois 159 near the Taco Bell and Hy Ho restaurants. It closed the eastbound lanes of the road. Eastbound traffic was diverted onto Illinois 15 south of Belleville around the two-vehicle accident.
It was not clear how long the road would be closed while crews towed the vehicles and cleared the road.
