Granite City Police on Monday announced the arrest of a man in connection with two armed robberies.
The suspect, 41-year-old Robert Baker of East St. Louis, has been charged with both robberies.
Granite City Police Major Jeff Connor released the following statement:
On Wednesday, June 24th, at 3:55 p.m., police responded to an armed robbery at Insurance Express, 3675 Nameoki Rd, Granite City. Officers learned a black male suspect walked into the business and announced a robbery after displaying a handgun. The suspect left with an undisclosed amount of money. Nobody was hurt during this incident.
On Thursday June 25th, at 4:08 p.m., police responded to an armed robbery at Illinois Title Loan, 3410 Nameoki Rd, Granite City. Officers learned a black male suspect walked into this business and announced a robbery after displaying a handgun. The suspect left with an undisclosed amount of money. Nobody was hurt during this incident.
Officers believed both robberies were committed by the same suspect. After an extensive cooperative investigation by Granite City Detectives, Patrol Officers and the newly developed NAT (Nuisance Abatement Team) along with officers from the Collinsville Police Department, leads were developed leading investigators to the suspect.
This suspect was taken into custody late Friday evening from his residence in East St. Louis. He was housed at the Granite City Police Department over the weekend with the case being presented to the Madison County state's attorney today.
The suspect was charged Monday with two counts of armed robbery from these incidents. His bond has been set at $500,000.
