Scott Air Force Base and MidAmerica Airport near Mascoutah have received $101,650 from the Federal Aviation Administration to study the need for a secondary access road between the base and the airport.

"I will continue to support efforts to improve our transportation infrastructure," said U.S. Rep. Jerry Costello, a Democrat from Belleville. "Improving access to Scott will help the base handle its recent growth while encouraging economic development at MidAmerica."

Aircraft from Scott Air Force Base use the 10,000-foot runway at MidAmerica Airport in a joint-use agreement between St. Clair County and the military. The base air traffic controllers handle MidAmerica's airplanes.
