Iranian students and faculty at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville will hold a rally Tuesday on campus in support of protesters and prisoners in Iran.

The rally will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Quad on the university campus. The rally will address the political unrest following the Iranian elections.

SIUE protesters plan to issue a demand that the Iranian government release all demonstrators imprisoned during the weeks since the June 12 presidential election in Iran. They also want punishment for those responsible for the injuries and deaths of demonstrators who protested what has been called a fraudulent presidential election.

SIUE Chemistry Professors Sadegh Khazaeli is expected to speak at the rally at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The students organizing the rally are members of the SIUE Iranian Student Association.
