MARYVILLE -- It may not be all they wanted, but Maryville will get a bit of federal money to help with Illinois 162.
U.S. Rep. John Shimkus presented Mayor Larry Gulledge with a check Monday for $95,000 toward a project report for road improvements along Illinois 162.
Gulledge said the fast-growing area is experiencing "changes in traffic patterns" and a study is warranted to consider expanding the two-lane road to three lanes for a turn lane.
The Illinois 162 corridor includes Anderson Hospital and the new Maryville Manor nursing home, as well as the Shoppes at Maryville project by Koman Properties at the intersection of Illinois 162 and 159. Another project is in the pipeline, Gulledge said, but could not reveal the details.
