A Troy man was charged Wednesday with aggravated battery of a child after police said he broke a 9-week-old baby's ribs.
Police arrested John D. Cravens, 27, of 331 Riggin Road, Apt. 5, in Troy on Wednesday. He remains in Madison County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail.
The baby, identified only as C.C., sustained multiple rib fractures sometime in May, causing "great bodily harm," according to the criminal information filed in Madison County Circuit Court on Wednesday.
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services are investigating after receiving an abuse report on June 22, said department spokesman Kendall Marlowe.
DCFS has had no prior contact with Cravens, Marlowe said.
Marlowe was unable to immediately determine whether the baby was in state custody, he said.
If convicted, Cravens could face up to 30 years in prison.
