A Troy man accused of gunning down a church pastor mid-sermon will be examined by experts to see whether he is mentally fit to stand trial.
Terry J. Sedlacek, 27, is accused of fatally shooting the Rev. Fred Winters of First Baptist Church in Maryville on March 8.
Sedlacek has no apparent connection to the church or to Winters. His attorneys have said the defendant's mental health deteriorated after he contracted Lyme disease from a tick bite years ago.
Circuit Judge Richard Tognarelli issued an order Tuesday, stating defense attorneys have requested that Sedlacek's fitness be determined. The judge gave the prosecution and the defense 14 days to submit the names of experts they want to examine Sedlacek.
