EDWARDSVILLE - A former Edwardsville High School teacher will serve two years of probation and has to register as a sex offender after pleading guilty Tuesday to aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Kasey Johnes, 37, was charged in April with having sex with one of her students.
As part of a plea deal, prosecutors dismissed a more serious charge of aggravated criminal sexual assault.
In addition to having to the probation and placement on the sex offender registry, Johnes was fined $500 and ordered to continue receiving counseling. She also is prohibited from having contact with the victim.
Johnes, a health teacher, was fired after the allegation surfaced. Police say Johnes, a health teacher, had a five-month sexual relationship with the student that ended in February. The student was 17 at the time.
Johnes' attorney could not be reached for comment.
