Lars Eller, a 2007 first-round draft pick and one of the top forward prospects for the St. Louis Blues, will be tested Friday for mononucleosis.
"We don't know for sure yet, we're going to do so more tests (today) and get a real read on it," Blues President John Davidson said late Thursday. "There's a touch of something there, but we don't know what it is. We're going to do extensive blood work and try to find out exactly what it is.
"You hope this is just a very slight case if anything, and not full-blown mononucleosis."
If Eller is diagnosed with mononucleosis, he could be sidelined for an extensive period. The progress of 2008 No. 1 pick Alex Pietrangelo and second-round pick Philip McRae was also slowed during their recovery period from the illness last season.
