BELLEVILLE -- Home sales recorded last month in St. Clair County almost mirror the results reported Thursday in the national housing market.

Homes sales fell by almost 2.5 percent in the county between August 2008 and August 2009 -- from 242 sales in 2008 to 236 sales in 2009 -- according to statistics released Thursday by the Realtor Association of Southwestern Illinois in Belleville. The 236 sales recorded in the county last month were seven fewer that were sold in July.

The National Association of Realtors also released its report Thursday and announced that the country's sales dropped 2.7 percent in August. Compared with a year ago, however, home sales are up 3.4 percent.
