ST. LOUIS -- Veteran St. Louis Blues center Derek Armstrong cleared waivers Tuesday and was assigned to minor-league Peoria. In five preseason games with the Blues, the former Los Angeles Kings forward had three goals and seven points.

The Blues return to practice Wednesday and will play their home opener at 7 p.m. Thursday against the Atlanta Thrashers.

* After the free food games, one of the Blues' most popular fan promotions in recent years was allowing fans to get 35-cent tacos the following day after the team scored five goals in a game.

For a while the team hooked up with Taco Bell on the promotion, went to Dairy Queen Blizzards, then tried offering tacos at Scottrade Center.

Enter McDonald's, which will have fans chanting "We Want Big Macs" thanks to a new promotion for the 2009-10 season.

Each time the Blues score five or more goals at home this season, fans may redeem their ticket stubs the next three days for a free Big Mac at any metro-east or St. Louis area McDonald's.

The Big Mac promotion was also used in the early 1990s at the old St. Louis Arena.

"This promotion has become wildly popular over the years," said Peter McLoughlin, CEO of Blues Enterprises. "We thank McDonald's for keeping it going. We know Blues fans will undoubtedly be shaking the walls of Scottrade Center this season, urging the team to score five goals or more."
