St. Louis Cardinals first baseman and catcher Yadier Molina on Friday won 2009 Fielding Bible Awards for their excellent glovework.
This is the fourth Fielding Bible Award for Pujols and the third for Molina. Both winners were chosen by a panel of 10 experts, including Peter Gammons, Bill James, Joe Posnanski and John Dewan, author of the new Fielding Bible-Volume II.
In granting the award to Pujols, Dewan wrote: "What's left to say? Four Fielding Bible Awards in four years. He has been the best in baseball, both offensively and defensively."
Of Molina, Dewan wrote: "Everybody knows about Molina's incredible throwing arm. Well, maybe not the eight guys he picked off this year (the most by any catcher). But he is also one of the top-five bad-pitch-blocking catchers in Major League Baseball."
Other winners were second baseman Aaron Hill (Toronto), third baseman Ryan Zimmerman (Washington), shortstop Jack Wilson (Pittsburgh), left fielder Carl Crawford (Tampa Bay), center fielder Franklin Gutierrez (Seattle), right fielder Ichiro Suzuki and pitcher Mark Buehrle (Chicago White Sox).
