Abortion opponents are urging U.S. Rep. Jerry Costello not to sign any legislation for a healthcare overhaul that includes taxpayer-funded abortions.

Daniel Michael, an abortion protester from Highland, said abortion opponents planned to hold a protest at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Costello's office on Delmar Avenue in Granite City.

"We want to inform Congressman Costello that you cannot be Catholic and pro-choice; he must vote against the taxpayer-funded abortion healthcare bill," Michael said. "He has proclaimed that he is pro-life, and now it is time for him to show how pro-life he really is."
