Here's the scoop: White Cottage ice cream shop on Lebanon Avenue has closed

There is a new flavor and name associated with White Cottage.

One of the two Belleville ice cream stands that have sold and scooped White Cottage ice cream over the past several summers has closed and the other has a new name. The two were owned by different people.

The one at 102 Lebanon Ave. has closed, and the other at 8205 W. Main St. is now West End Creamery but no longer sells White Cottage-brand ice cream. Instead, the ice cream stand is selling Edy's Ice Cream and, for the first time, frozen yogurt.

Speaking of ice cream, Dairy Queen may reopen soon in O'Fallon, maybe by this week. Owners Corey Moss and his father, Ron Moss, closed the restaurant at 1630 W. U.S. Route 50 and their two other DQs at 1776 Lebanon Ave. in Belleville and 1500 N. Illinois St. in Swansea for renovations. The Belleville and Swansea locales have since reopened. ...

A second Caffe Avanti is expected to open in downtown Belleville before the end of next month. Owner Joe Lebryk said he's anticipating that his coffee shop at 208 E. Main St., across the street from Quizno's and next-door to Curt Smith Sporting Goods, will be ready for business by mid- or late-May and open before the annual Art on the Square outdoor art show. Lebryk opened his first cafe at 1171 N. Green Mount Road in O'Fallon in September 2004. ...

Jacques at the Bank, at 102 W. Main St. in Collinsville, is now serving breakfast and lunch and will soon serve dinner. The former State Bank of Collinsville building was converted into a wine bar and restaurant and opened for business earlier this year. Owner Jack Strader created a dining room in the bank lobby and a wine cellar in the bank vault. The bistro-style eatery is open for breakfast and lunch from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Beginning Friday, the restaurant will serve dinner. You can call the restaurant and wine bar at 346-2233. ...

U.S. Cellular will open a new high-tech retail store next week in Highland. A ribbon-cutting will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. ...

If you were hoping to eat one last meal at Red'z Rib Shack, you're out of luck. The barbecue restaurant at Illinois 159 and Illinois 162 in Maryville closed its doors Sunday to make way for a new Walgreens that will be built in its place. Owner Bryan Warren wants to relocate the popular barbecue place but has yet to find a new spot. Randy Quick and his wife, Sharon Glass, established the business in 1994. In 2004, the couple moved to the Caribbean and sold the business to Jasper Vitale, who in turn sold it to Warren. ...

Wm. Noble and Co. in Jerseyville is expanding with a new $2.1 million building. Contegra Construction Co. is building the 34,000-square-foot structure to meet surging demand for agricultural implements fueled by ethanol fuel production from prime metro-east crops. Construction is scheduled to wrap up by September. ...

Coldwater Creek in Fairview Heights will hold "Try It On for the Cure" on April 20. Proceeds will go toward the St. Louis Susan G. Komen Foundation. The store, at 6520 N. Illinois St., will donate $1 for every shopper who tries on clothing, and 10 percent of event sales, to the Komen foundation. For more information, call the store at 624-0835. ...

And finally, Culver's Restaurant in Collinsville is contributing 10 percent of sales collected April 30 to help fund Fisher House -- a shelter at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis that assists families of wounded military personnel.
