The Masterworks Children's Chorus promises a concert for and about the ung and the young at heart on Sunday at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Belleville.
Tickets are $15; $10 for students. They are available at the door or in advance at The Basket Case, 680 Lebanon Ave. and The Vineyard, 6500 W. Main St., both in Belleville; Fezziwig's Market Place, 218 W. St. Louis St., Lebanon; and Dragonfly Secrets, 115-117 E. First St., O'Fallon.
Fiddles and banjoes
Toes will be tapping like crazy Saturday at the annual fiddle and banjo contest at Yellow Jacket's in New Athens.
Musicians will compete in nine divisions beginning at noon. Registration starts at 11:30.
Contestants pay a $2 entry fee (but no admission fee). Admission is $8; $4 for seniors; free for those 12 and under.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase and a vintage fiddle will be raffled.

Fall festivals
* Follow the yellow brick road to Victory Family Church on Sunday for a night of games, food, crafts and fun surrounding a showing of Veggie Tales' "The Wizard of Ha's."
Dorothy, the scarecrow, the tin man and the cowardly lion will be there to meet the kids.
The church is at 555 South Belt West. Admission is free.
* Garden Heights Baptist Church also is offering a fall festival open to the public from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at 1897 Mascoutah Ave. in Belleville.
There will be a bouncy for kids, game booths and plenty of food.
Skating wizardry
Don your best costume for the Zombie Prom and take a magic carpet ride at the Wizards of Waverly Place Halloween Bash from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at The Fun Spot Skating Center in Belleville.
In addition to a magician, there will be face painting, prizes from Wizard Mail and a Pocket Elf trivia contest
Admission is $7; skate rental is $2. The Fun Spot is at 1400 West Blvd.
'The Exorcist'
Encore @ the Miners promises a real Halloween head-turner with its production of "The Exorcist" Live on Stage at 8 p.m. Friday and midnight Oct. 31 at the Miners Theatre in Collinsville.
Tickets are $10 per person; no one younger than 16 will be admitted without a parent or guardian.

Smithsonian exhibit
Discover how our ancestors came to America in "Journey Stories," a traveling exhibition of the world-renowned Smithsonian Institution, at the Mascoutah Heritage Museum.
The exhibit runs through Dec. 6. Viewing hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 10-4 Saturday and 1-4 Sunday.
The exhibit is free and open to the public at 306 W. Main St. in Mascoutah.
