Rumor Mill: Roy Oswalt
The latest reports leave former Astros ace Roy Oswalt at square one as he searches for a team for the 2012 season. Reports out of St. Louis and Boston indicate that there is nothing shaking between the hurler and the Cardinals or Red Sox. Meanwhile, Yahoo sports reports that the Reds remain interested in adding him to their rotation. But Oswalt really only wants to pitch for the Cardinals or Rangers.

Despite my 4 1/2 year old's opinion, Cardinals are still a hot ticket
My season ticket check has cleared and the hard part is over. So, despite the unpleasantness that was Albert Pujols' defection from the Cardinals, I am finally looking forward to the upcoming season with or without the big guy. But some people aren't willing to let the past go. And, unfortunately, one of those people lives with me. My nearly 5-year-old son reminded me over the weekend that he is no longer interested in going to see the Cardinals play at Busch Stadium thanks to the Birds' failure to re-sign Pujols to a contract extension.

Cardinals near a deal with IF Alex Cora
The Cardinals are close to a minor league contract agreement with versatile infielder Alex Cora. While Cora, 36, doesn't hit much anymore with a .224 batting average last year and a .210 mark the year before and one home run since 2008, he can play all four infield positions well enough to justify a major league roster spot.

McLaughlin will be back in Fox Sports Midwest Booth
Fox Sports Midwest has announced that long-time Cardinals broadcaster Dan McLaughlin is going to get a third chance. He'll be back in the booth calling Redbirds games after a lengthy suspension due to his second arrest for driving under the influence. From a baseball standpoint, I am glad. McLaughlin's an excellent broadcaster who makes the Cardinals more fun to watch. But from a human standpoint, I'm more than a little worried.

Dallas media: Oswalt doesn't seem like a fit for Rangers
The latest on the Roy Oswalt situation, according to the Dallas Morning News: The Rangers are interested in the former Astros ace mostly as an insurance policy. They'd like him to agree to pitch out of the bullpen and be ready to jump into the starting rotation should a pitcher go down to injury.

Giants sign former Cardinals SS Ryan Theriot
The Giants have signed former Cardinals infielder Ryan Theriot to a one-year contract with a sizable pay cut. The deal will pay Theriot, who started the season for the Redbirds at shortstop before being moved to a utility role with the trade for Rafael Furcal, $1.25 million in guaranteed money. He could earn another $750,000 in incentives. Last season he made $3.3 million with St. Louis.
