Owners reopening three Dairy Queens

The new owners of three metro-east Dairy Queen restaurants have reopened their location in Belleville and expect to reopen another in O'Fallon later this week.

Corey Moss said he and his father, Ron Moss, reopened their store at 1776 Lebanon Ave. in Belleville a couple of weeks ago and should have another at 130 W. Highway 50 in O'Fallon set for business by Wednesday or Thursday. A third location, at 1500 N. Illinois St. in Swansea, will reopen sometime soon. The father-son ownership recently purchased the businesses and closed them for renovation. They also own the DQ at 10 Central Blvd. in Highland. ...

The smorgasbord is up and serving at the new Golden Corral in Collinsville. The buffet-style restaurant is open at 1079 Collinsville Crossing Blvd., located in the Collinsville Crossing retail center. The chain opened an eatery in Green Mount Crossing in Shiloh in December 2006. ...

Gary's Bar & Grill is only a new name for the tavern and eatery located at 834 S. Morrison Road in Collinsville. Gary Lutman still owns the business, which he formerly named Knockers Bar & Grill and Good Times Bar & Grill before that. He said he decided to change the name, again. "I like this better," Lutman said. "The other name kind of back-fired on us." You can still reach him at 343-4172. ...

According to a corporate spokesperson, Starbucks will neither close any metro-east locations nor lay off any employees. The Seattle-based café chain had recently announced it was laying off 600 nationwide. Last Tuesday evening, the chain of 7,100 stores closed for three hours to retrain its 135,000 employees and improve the quality of drinks they make. Starbucks has cafés located in O'Fallon, Collinsville, Granite City and on the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville campus. ...

Despite the cold and recent snowfall, the folks at Dairy Freeze aren't waiting for warmer weather and have gone ahead an reopened for the season at 250 St. Louis Road in Collinsville. ...

And finally, Tonnies True Value & Rental, located in Albers, will celebrate its 96th year in business the weekend of March 28-29. The hardware store has been family owned for three generations, with fourth and fifth generations to come. You can find the store at 126 N. Commercial St. or call them at 248-5172.
