SIUE to host Earth Day festivities

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville will host a celebration of Earth Day through Tuesday with the theme, "Celebrate the Earth!" Events are:

Today

• Jim Scheff, 12:30 p.m., "Wildnerness in Missouri: Protecting Missouri's Last Roadless, Wild Areas," room 148, Evergreen Hall.

• Christine Favilla, 4 p.m., "Sierra Club 101: Who we are, what we do, and how you can be involved," room 148, Evergreen Hall.

Friday

• Bill Retzlaff, 1:30 p.m., "There are green roofs and green walls at SIUE?," Engineering Building room 1011. A tour of green roofs follows the lecture.

Saturday

• Campus cleanup day, 11 a.m. meet on the Quad.

Monday

• Derrick Jense, 4 p.m., "Civilization and Resistance," Hickory Hackberry Room, Morris University Center.

Tuesday

• Susannah Fuchs, noon, "Air Quaility and Health: How can I make a difference?," room 148, Evergreen Hall.

• Earth Day cake cutting and celebration, 1:30 p.m., Goshen Lounge, Morris University Center.

Autism walk to be held at O'Fallon park

A walk for autism will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon April 26 at Rock Springs Park in O'Fallon.

The walk is sponsored by the Foundation for Autism Services Today & Tomorrow.

Annual pie auction to kick off Saturday

Westminster Presbyterian Church will host its annual Pie Auction and Garden Kick off on Sunday at the church, 1419 N. 17th St., Belleville.

The garden kick off begins with the dedication of the garden at 12:30 p.m., followed by the planting of the first crop. There will be plants for sale as well as tomato cages, garden stones and rain barrels. Any garden plots left will be rented out as well.

The pie auction begins at 11:45 a.m. with auctioneer Bob.

M.U.S.I.C. offers swing dance lesson

Midwest United States Imperial Club (M.U.S.I.C.) will offer a Learn to Swing Dance class from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Sunday at the VFW Post 5691, 1234 Vandalia (Route 159), Collinsville.

Admission is $3 for members, $5 for nonmembers. Music begins at 6 p.m.

Silver Creek to host landscape forum

Silver Creek Mill, 602 S. Jefferson St., Mascoutah, will host landscape design consultant Karen Popwell, from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Mill. She will answer landscaping questions. Bring a photo of the problem area.
