New Thoughts on Ancient Civilization -- Saturday and Sunday, Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site near Collinsville. Archaeologists from throughout the Midwest will convene at Cahokia Mounds from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (registration at 8:30; $5 fee) Saturday for the annual Mississippian Conference to present the lastest findings on the Mississippian culture (900-1400 AD). On Sunday, anyone 16 or older can learn flintknapping from noon to 4 p.m. from Larry Kinsella; participants will learn to make arrowheads and other tools; $30 fee. Bikers For Babies -- Registration 9 a.m., kickstands up at noon Sunday. Start at Wild Country in Collinsville and end at Hawg Pit BBQ Barn in Grafton. Sponosred by the March of Dimes. 60-mile route travels on I-55 and IL-140 with the last stretch along the Great River Road to Grafton. Live music and vendors at the Hawg Pit and KSHE-95s Sweetmeat is set to make an appearance. Register: Proceeds benefit the March of Dimes.
