Mascoutah Homecoming and August Fest packs three days with fun

Mascoutah is rolling out its 87th annual Homecoming and August Fest this weekend with parades, carnival rides, tractor pulls, car show, firemen's muster, food, judging of 4-H projects and livestock, live music and much more.

When: Friday through Sunday

Where: Scheve Park, Mascoutah

Admission: Free

Parades: 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; Main Street to Sixth Street to Scheve Park. Theme is "Thank a Farmer." Decorated floats, high school and grade school marching bands, class reunion attendees on flatbed trucks are part of the action.

Music: On the Depot Stage -- Hillbilly Authority, 7-11 p.m. Friday; Rough Ryders, 7:30-11:30 p.m. Saturday; Avery Hill Band, 6:30-10:30 p.m. Sunday. At the Pole Barn -- Cactus Moon, 7-11 p.m. Friday; Night Ryders, 6:30-10:30 p.m. Saturday; Turnpike Cruiser, 6-9 p.m. Sunday.

4-H judging: 4-H members from all over the metro-east will display their projects and livestock in the Ag Building in the north part of the park. Projects will be judged tonight, with livestock judging from Friday afternoon through Saturday. Livestock categories include cattle, horses, sheep, swine, poultry and rabbits. The livestock auction is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. A horse show is at 4:30 p.m. today; fashion revue, 5:15 p.m. Friday followed by a public speaking contest at 5:30 p.m.

Food: Food stands will open at 5 p.m. Friday, 1 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday. You'll find everything from German bratwurst, knockwurst, potato pancakes and sauerkraut to burgers, hot dogs, funnel cakes and sno cones.

Tractor and Truck Pulls: A truck pull is at 7 p.m. Friday; a Plow & Weight Tractor Pull is at 7 Saturday; and a Diesel Smoker Tractor Pull is at 7 p.m. Sunday, all at the Scheve Park Arena.

Homecoming Queen: Candidate who sells the most tickets for the Sunday night drawing will be crowned at 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $1 each or seven for $5 for a chance to win $3,000, $1,500 and $500. The drawing is at 10 p.m. Sunday.

Car show: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Burger-Kiel Log House: Open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The house was built circa 1863-64 for a low-income rural family. It has two rooms, one upstairs and one down.

Children's Pedal Tractor Pull: 1 p.m. Sunday; registration at noon.
