Chester Thompson will do drum workshop and concert in Belleville

Chester Thompson, drummer for Genesis and Phil Collins, and Uli Frost from Paderborn, Germany, will conduct a drum workshop on Aug. 26 in Belleville, before a concert that evening with the Chester Thompson Trio.

The events will be presented by the The Drums and Percussion Paderborn society and Melodic Rhythms in Belleville, in association with Belleville Sister Cities Inc. and the Paderborn Sister City Society.

The drum workshop will start at 5 p.m. at the Belleville Philharmonic Society, 116 N. Jackson St. in Belleville. Doors open at 4:30.

The concert with the Chester Thompson Trio start at 8:30 p.m.; doors open at 8. Tickets are available at Melodic Rhythms, 110 N. High St., Belleville. Call 618-233-0659 or send an email to contact@melodicrhythms.com

Chester Thompson has been the drummer for Weather Report, Frank Zappa, Genesis and Phil Collins. He has been teaching and performing at Drums 'n' Percussion Paderborn, Europe's largest drum festival, since 2003, which is based in the world largest computer museum in Paderborn, Germany.

Uli Frost founded the festival in 2001. He is well know in the international drum/percussion scene for his knowledge about drum recording and modification of drums.

Drums 'n' Percussion Paderborn will release a CD of the Chester Thompson Trio that was recorded live at the Paderborn Festival in 2013. This CD is a limited edition solely for Belleville's Bicentennial. It will be available at the drum workshop and concert.
