What qualifies you for this position?
“My job and previous school board experiences prove I am qualified to make hard choices regarding money management and other day to day decisions. I am currently the board president. I am elected to look out for the taxpayer dollars, but there are also personal factors that come into play, such as, students’ educational options and employees’ careers. I listen to varying opinions from many voices, administrators, teachers, parents, students and community members. I consider all sides of an issue and ultimately vote for what is in the best interest for all of District 7 students.”
What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it?
“The top issue is school finances. The board has been good stewards of our taxpayers dollars. We have kept class size reasonable, had no major layoffs and have not dismantled academic, performing arts or athletic programs. We have $4 million in cash reserves for our 2015-2016 school year. We will continue to look at options, such as, refinancing debt. If we use our cash reserves and see little or no improvement in EAV or state payments, the board will consider any combination of: reducing programs and/or employees, borrowing money to cover expenses or asking the taxpayers if they want to increase our Education Fund.”
