Previously held offices: Granite City High School Band Parent Association President for two years (voted position)
What qualifies you for this position?
“I am a local business man. I look at things from a business point of view. I have been a band parent for 15 years. I ran the band concessions for three years and then became the band parent president for two years. I understand how to balance the budget with the needs of the kids and the organization. I believe that our trades and extracurricular activities are just as important as our core classes. I believe we (meaning the community as a whole) must find new ways to save programs not just cut them. We all have to work together for the benefit of our children.”
What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it?
“Our biggest obstacles are finances and parent involvement. We must find creative ways to raise revenue that is sustainable. We need to come up with programs that the community can get involved in to help save money and invest in their children’s future. I believe education begins at home. Parents must encourage their children and instill a sense of pride and urgency in their child’s education. I would like to see a mentor program where younger students can get help from older students. I believe this would benefit both age groups significantly by instilling some pride and placing a higher value on education.”
