    To the person who called into the Sound-off about the Smithton Memorial gun. Apparently he didn't read the small print; this is a memorial to honor all veterans. The newly constructed monument in front of the gun honor all branches of service from all wars.

    The Collinsville Unit 10 School Board held a special meeting on May 1 at 3 p.m. in the administration building. It was not held in the annex building, where all meetings have been held for the last several years.

    We have long been critical of the lack of transparency over the expenditures and economic development results of tax increment financing districts here in Illinois. Although there have been efforts in the past to strengthen the reporting requirements and use of funds, more has been needed.
