Belleville walking tour
A walking tour of historic downtown Belleville will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. It starts at the Veterans’ Memorial on the southeast corner of the square on East Main Street. The tour is approximately 16 blocks long and lasts about 90 minutes. $10 per person; for 12 years and up. It’s a benefit for the Belleville Historical Society. National Day of Prayer Gathering
O’Fallon residents will celebrate the National Day of Prayer from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at O’Fallon City Hall in O’Fallon. Following the theme, “Wake Up America,” they will be praying for church, government, military, media, business, education and family. Brewer to Perform with Symphony
Internationally acclaimed soprano Christine Brewer, of Lebanon, will join the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra for three concerts at Powell Hall, 718 N. Grand in St. Louis. She will be the featured soloist on the “Altenberg Lieder” (five orchestral songs composed by Alban Berg in 1911-12, based on postcard texts written by Austrian poet Peter Altenberg). Book Signing in Waterloo
Sarah J. Southwestern Illinois College in Belleville is accepting applications for College For Kids and Kids On Campus this summer. College for Kids provides educational enrichment for children in kindergarten through eighth grade with morning sessions from 8 to 11:30 a.m. and afternoon sessions from 12:30 to 4 p.m. June 6-30. Miners Concert Fundraiser
Four metro-east bands are tuning up for the Rockin’ for the Miner’s 3: Sound the Alarm concert to raise funds and awareness for renovations needed to reopen Collinsville’s historic Miner’s Theatre. Road Trip to Amish Country
Fairview Heights Parks and Recreation Department invites people 55 and older to take a day trip to Amish country in and around Arthur, visiting local shops with antiques, quilts, crafts, collectibles and clothing. Leave the library parking lot at 7:30 a.m. and return at 5:30 a.m. May 19. The cost of $70 includes transportation by charter bus and an Amish lunch with homemade bread, salad, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, noodles, vegetable, pie and drink. Register by May 9.
Summer Youth Choral Program
Masterworks will conduct a one-week program for young aspiring musicians from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 11-15 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Belleville, led by music director and conductor Stephen Mager. Activities include beginning and advanced vocal training; music reading skills; performance of standard choral repertoire, jazz and Broadway; music-making with handbells, handchimes, Orff instruments and pipe organ; guest appearances by St. Louis area professional musicians; and introduction to dance with Laura Roth.
