The 7th Annual Day of Service, “Belleville Helping Belleville,” will be from from 8 a.m.-noon Saturday with meet up at Caritas Family Solutions, 900 Royal Heights Road, Belleville. The day of service is about volunteers coming together to tackle projects big and small throughout the community. This year, 9 projects have been selected that will require skills from minor IT services to landscaping and stuffing envelopes. There is something for everyone who wants to volunteer their time. Seminar for teen talent contest
The Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation will have a pre-registration seminar for its 8th Annual St. Louis Teen Talent Competition on Sunday at the Sheldon, St. Louis. The seminar will provide an overview of the talent competition experience for anyone interested in competing. The Citizens Utility Board (CUB) and State Rep. Jay Hoffman are co-hosting a clinic to help Belleville residents save potentially hundreds of dollars a year on utility bills from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at the Programs and Services for Older Persons, 201 N. Church St., Belleville. Attendees should bring a utility bill for a CUB expert to examine. The CUB is a non-profit utility watchdog created by the Illinois legislature to represent the interests of residential and small-business utility customers. Caseyville Park fundraiser scheduled
The 6th Annual Freaky Five Halloween 5k Run/Walk and Bonfire will be at 5 p.m. Oct. 7, at Caseyville Park. This event is a fundraiser to repair or improve the skate park. Those who want to support the cause but don’t want to run or walk can sign up as a ‘park supporter’ and enjoy the party around the bonfire. ‘Voices of the Past’ at Woodlawn Cemetery
History comes back to life during the “Voices of the Past: Historic Cemetery Tours” from 1-3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 7 and 8, at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1400 St. Louis Street, Edwardsville. Actors will portray some of Edwardsville’s past citizens and tell their stories next to the graves. The walking tours take about an hour and leave every 10-15 minutes. Some seating will be available at each stop. Tour tickets cost $10 in advance or $13 the day of the event. Advance tickets may be purchased at the Edwardsville Public Library and the Madison County Archival Library on Main Street, Edwardsville. On Saturday, Oct. 7. at 7 p.m., Woodlawn Cemetery will have a special indoor chapel presentation. Chamber of Commerce CEO class seeking mentors
The Belleville CEO class, a program for Belleville-area high school students who are interested in the business world, needs about 12 additional business mentors for the 2017-2018 session. Mentors meet with a student about 6 to 8 times during the year to discuss the student’s business, business plans and financials and to ensure that the students are prepared to meet class deadlines. Lindenwood University-Belleville Theatre Department
The Lindenwood University-Belleville’s Department of Theatre announced its 6th season of plays that will include “A Streetcar Named Desire” on Oct. 5-8, and “Noises Off,” a farce, on April 12-15. All Thursday through Saturday showtimes are at 7:30 p.m. Sunday’s matinees are at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $10 for general admission and $5 for students and seniors.
