What's out there: Soap covers, salt and pepper shakers and a memorable mug

SOAP COVERS: Autumn is creeping up and Bath & Body Works at St. Clair Square in Fairview Heights wants you to switch out your liquid hand soap covers for something that suits the upcoming season. This is just some of the selection of bronze- and brass-toned metal fillagree covers that slip over both liquid and foaming soap sold there. Shorter versions fit the kitchen soaps, which, when disguised, can suit the bathroom, too. Each cover is $7.50.

CONVERSATION PIECES: Make your set of salt and pepper shakers a conversation piece with these nickel-plated icons of architecture. From the Chrysler Building to the Eiffel Tower and back to New York for the Empire State Building, each set is on clearance at Macy's at the mall for $19.99. Look for them on the sale table near the front of the housewares department.

MEMORABLE MUG: Yes, touristy coffee mugs are a dime a dozen, but this one is an eye-catcher for its bold color and style. Plus, it's a big mug and comes in a nice gift box if you want to give it to someone. You'll find it at Starbucks stores in the bi-state area. This one is from St. Clair Square location. Cost is $10.95.
