East St. Louis students sent home in wake of bomb threat

News-Democrat

A bomb threat written on two bathroom walls sent students home Wednesday from Wyvetter Younge Middle School.

The threats and gang graffiti were found on the walls of two boys bathrooms on Tuesday by a janitor. A sweep was made of the school Tuesday. On Wednesday, school was canceled after 90 minutes when school administrators discovered a second sweep would take much longer than anticipated.

The school has 485 students and is at 3939 Caseyville Ave. in East St. Louis. The school was searched by a bomb-sniffing dog and Illinois State Police, St. Clair County sheriff's deputies and East St. Louis police. Nothing was found in either search.

A decision has not been made as to whether students will make up the day, a district spokesman said.
