A 41-year-old East St. Louis man has been charged in the armed robberies last week of two Granite City businesses.

Robert Baker, 41, of East St. Louis, was arrested Friday at his home, 704 N. 70th St. in East St. Louis.

Baker was charged with two counts of armed robbery in connection with the robbery at 3:55 p.m. Wednesday of Insurance Express, 3675 Nameoki Road and at 4:08 p.m. Thursday of Illinois Title Loan, 3410 Nameoki Road.

In both cases, the suspect walked in, showed a handgun and announced the robbery, then left with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

Granite City detectives were aided in their investigation by the newly developed Nuisance Abatement Team and Collinsville Police.
