EAST ST. LOUIS -- Three adults were awakened as they were being shot by a gunman they knew shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday.
The two males and a female were not identified. Detective Michael Floore said all of them are in stable condition at an undisclosed hospital.
Floore said the victims sustained gunshot wounds to their legs and arms.
Police responded to the 2700 block of St. Louis Avenue to investigate a report of multiple shootings, Floore said.
Officers found the three victims inside their house.
"They told police they knew the gunman," Floore said. "He was inside of the house. He shot them while they were sleeping. This is how they were awakened."
Police do not have a motive for the shooting. A weapon was recovered at the home, but Floore said police do not know if it was the weapon used in the shootings.
After the suspect shot the three adults, he fled from the residence and is still on the loose, Floore said.
